We made it home- FINALLY!!! We had 30 hours of travel trying to get home on Sunday/Sunday night/Monday morning. I hate the Chicago (O'Hare) airport. Every time we go there, our flight is delayed or cancelled. And that was exactly what happened to us again. Our plane sat on the runway for 1 hour after we landed- waiting on a gate. So that pushed us to get through customs, pick up our luggage & recheck it, plus go back through security. The airport train was broke & the line for the bus was super long, so we paid a cab to take us to the other side to our terminal. Our gates got changed at least 6 times and we were ticketed on 3 different flights. Our original flight was delayed & the gate was rescheduled 2 times, before it was cancelled. There were no other flights going to Des Moines until the next day (Monday), so they ticketed us to fly to Waterloo. That meant someone had to come get us, as our vehicle was in Des Moines- so Manda & Steve were gonna come pick us up. But that flight was delayed & the gate was changed. In the mean time they ended up scheduling another late flight to Des Moines- so we switched flights again. The gate for that flight was changed 3 times & flight was delayed 3 times......we thought we were gonna end up staying in the airport all night. But we finally got on a plane about midnight & headed to Des Moines. We made it to Des Moines, but our 3 suitcases did not. (I was so upset- as we had checked everything & I just prayed we would end up getting it all.). We got home & pulled into our driveway about 3:30 a.m.. Deke went out to check pigs & I glanced through our pile of mail, before we crawled into bed. It was a short night.
Deke was up early yesterday morning, went out to chore & then had his weekly board meeting at the courthouse. I was up early to get some thing done before Masen & Ainslee got here. Manda & the boys stopped out to say hi & welcome us home. The airport delivered our 3 suitcases yesterday afternoon, about 4:45 p.m. So I spent my evening unpacking, working on doing laundry, going through mail & emails. And Deke worked late outside. We were both beat & finally called it a night about 11:00.
Today Deke will be home to work on the farm all day & I'll have the 3 Wood kids. Tonight we will all be going to the races to cheer on Nathan. Last week he got 2nd place, by only about 1"- so hopefully he has good luck tonight. Sarah's work (Dekalb Seed) is sponsoring the races, so the kids will be going with me. It will be a fun night with all of our family!!
We had a wonderful trip! It was fun spending time with our demonstrator friends from afar. The country there is beautiful & hot. It was great being there, but we are sure happy to be home. I hope to get pictures downloaded & posted sometime next week to share with all of you. This week we have a jam packed week with races, county fair & 4 stamp classes. I have lots of creating & cutting to get done every spare minute I can find.
I hope you have a TERRIFIC Tuesday!!
Happy Stamping!
Hugs-
SUSIE
